Crew Member Visas

Persons working as crew members on vessels or aircraft need to apply for a D visa.

This applies to crew members such as pilots, air hostesses, flight attendants, stewards, seamen, or employees on board a ship whose services are required for normal operation.

Crew members traveling to the United States as passengers to join a vessel or aircraft must apply for a C1/D visa.

All crew members applying for a crew visa must appear in person at the consular section and must be interviewed by a consular officer. 

For all male applicants between the age of 16 and 45: Supplemental Form DS-157. Please download Supplemental form DS-157 by clicking here: English / Dutch / French, complete the form and present it at the moment of your visa interview.

Additional documentation

  • A letter from the shipping agent providing details on the trip, the name of the ship, etc
  • Employment contract
  • a valid seaman's book
