H1N1 Flu
This Warden Message alerts U.S. citizens to the latest information regarding human cases of 2009-H1N1 Influenza, sometimes referred to as swine flu or novel H1N1. The Belgian Government’s Interministerial Influenza Commission (IIC) has reported the first H1N1 related death in Belgium, also reported on extensively in the local media. This Warden Message informs U.S. citizens that the World Health Organization (WHO) has raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6 in response to the ongoing global spread of the novel influenza A (H1N1) virus. A Phase 6 designation indicates that a global pandemic is underway. WHO’s decision to raise the pandemic alert level to Phase 6 is a reflection of the spread of the virus, not the severity of illness caused by the virus. more

All Americans in Belgium are urged to register either online at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/. Registering gives U.S. citizens access to updated information on travel and security within Belgium and makes it easier for the Embassy to contact citizens in case of emergency.
As the Department continues to develop information on conditions affecting the well-being and safety of U.S. citizens overseas, it shares information through its Consular Information Program documents, available on the internet at http://travel.state.gov/. In addition to information on the internet, travelers may obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the U.S. or outside the U.S. and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444.
